Loperamide is the main ingredient in most major diarrhea medication. It helps slow down the lower digestive tract by regulating it’s muscle tone. Loperamide can be found in such brands as Imodium, Dimor, Lopex or Fortasec. There are probably other brands available as well. Loperamide is generally safe and in some cases might be okay to take daily in a low dosage.

Bismuth Subsalicylate is used in products like Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate. It has antacid & anti-inflammatory properties which can help with diarrhea, nausea & heartburn.

Antispasmodics such as dicyclomine, hyoscyamine, cyclobenzaprine, tizanidine, carisoprodol and orphenadrine are used to prevent spasms, cramping & pain in the intestinal track. These usually need to be prescribed by your doctor.
