The reasons for developing IBS are unknown. Some research suggests that parts of the gut may be over-active, some of the contractions in the muscles can become abnormal. Other research has found that sensitivity to the amount of gas in your bowel and your genes can all contribute to the development of IBS.
Many people dealing with IBS know that their emotional state & stress can play a big part in worsening their symptoms. This is not suprising as there are many neural pathways between the digestive system & the brain. Thus if your brain is stressed or emotional it is not surprising for you to feel symptoms in your digestive system or visa versa.
